ART3325: Photographic Arts I

selection of student work, Fall 2014, Texas Tech University

ART 3325 is an introduction to the concepts and techniques of black and white photography for studio artists. In the class, we cover the creative use of the camera, lighting, exposure, composition and printing, both in digital and traditional photography. The students work on a series of technical/creative projects during the semester. These projects will serve as investigations of film printing and developing, digital exposure and downloading, composition and concept. The course culminates in a personal project using the skills learned and adding new skills to result in a final portfolio. Throughout the class, students discuss, both formally and informally, the issues surrounding criticism and analysis of photographs.
